Meet the Jury of 2012  (in alphabetical order, after protcol)
 
H.E. Mr. Nazem El-Khoury, Minister of Environment - Lebanon

Holder of a Bachelor Degree in Political Sciences & Public Administration from the American University of Beirut (AUB), Mr. Nazem El Khoury has also a background in the insurance, reinsurance and the banking sector. He is the Chairman of “Hotels and Tourism Development Company” and “BLC Services”. Mr. Nazem is also a Board Member at “BLC Bank”, “Al-Ahli Bank”. He is the the founder of “Harbour Insurance Company” and the Former Chairman of “Lebano-German Insurance Company”. He has served as a trustee on the Boards of the Lebanese American University (L.A.U), Notre Dame University (N.D.U) and University of Science and Technology (AUST). In 2000, he was elected as member of the Lebanese Parliement. In 2008, Mr. Nazem was appointed Political advisor to the President of the Republic of Lebanon, General Michel Suleiman. And in June 2011, he was appointed Minister of Environment.

   
Ziad Baroud

 

Ziad Baroud acquired his Masters degree in Law from Saint-Joseph University of Beirut in 1994. In July 2001, he became one of the founding members of the “Democratic Renewel Movement” along with many other prominent members of Lebanese civil society. He performed his training in Minister of Justice Ibrahim Najjar's law firm then created his own law firm HBDT in 2003. In 2004, Ziad Baroud was elected Secretary General of the Lebanese Association for Democratic Elections and has served as a board member of the Lebanese chapter of Transparency International since 2006. In 2008, Mr. Ziad Baroud became Lebanon's Minister of Interior and Municipalities, and was awarded the “Grand Officer of the French National Order of Merit” medal in 2009.

   
Tatiana Antonelli Abella

After growing up in Paris and Rome, where she studied Architecture and Urban Planning, Tatiana landed in Dubai in 2005. She quickly realized that the local ‘eco environment’ was lagging behind and it made her think on how to help raise awareness among the local community: curb pollution, conserve natural resources and reduce our impact on the local environment. Her passion for Sustainability and the Environment led her to co-found Goumbook in 2009, creating the first green information resource and green directory for the MENA Region. Today she is actively involved in the green arena and co-hosts the Green Team radio show on DubaiEye 103,8FM.
   
Prof. Farid B. Chaaban

Dr. Farid B. Chaaban received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from The University of Liverpool, UK, in 1989. In 1991 he joined the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at the American University of Beirut and currently he is a Full Professor. His research interests include electric machines and drives, energy sustainability, and the environmental impacts of power generation. He is the author and co-author of a European patent and of large number of articles published in international scientific journals and conferences. Prof. Chaaban has been involved in a wide scope of projects with local and international organizations such as Parliamentary committees on Energy and on Environment, UNEP, UNDP, METAP, and ESCWA. He is a founder member of the Greens Party and member of a number of NGOs in Lebanon.
   
Raed H. Charafeddine

Raed H. Charafeddine is the First Vice-Governor of the Banque du Liban, Lebanon's Central Bank, since April 2009. Prior to assuming his current responsibility, Mr. Charafeddine had an extensive banking experience of 20 years. As a lifelong activist in the civil society, Mr. Charafeddine served as a Board Member in several NGOs. Mr. Charafeddine was a visiting lecturer at select universities in Lebanon where he facilitated graduate and undergraduate courses in Strategic Management, Leadership, and Leading Change. Mr. Charafeddine holds Masters and Bachelor degrees in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina - Charlotte, USA.
   
Pierre El Khoury

Pierre El Khoury is the Director of the "Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation" (LCEC) hosted at the Ministry of Energy and Water. El Khoury is the main author of the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan for Lebanon (NEEAP) 2011-2015. He also worked on the development of the National Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Action (NEEREA) with the Central Bank of Lebanon. He is the national representative of Lebanon in the Board of Trustees of the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE). He is also the national focal point of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the Mediterranean Solar Plan (MSP), the EU-funded MED-EMIP and MED-ENEC projects, as well as the UNEP En-Lighten Initiative. Pierre El Khoury holds a Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master degree in Engineering Management, both from AUB.

   
Hala Fadel

Graduating from HEC (Paris) in 1996 and taking an MBA from the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Management in 2001, Mrs. Hala Fadel became a specialist in mergers and acquisitions at the investment bank Merrill Lynch. Today, she continues to work at Comgest, management funds in Paris and Beirut. In 2005, with the help of other MIT alumni and the support of Bader; Hala founded the MIT Enterprise Forum for the Pan-Arab Region, which has organized the MIT Arab Business Plan Competition since 2006. This initiative seeks to promote entrepreneurship in Arab countries through an annual competition for the best business start-up idea in the Arab World. Hala Fadel also developed a similar association in northern Lebanon, The Maurice Fadel Prize, which recognizes the year’s best business start-up idea, was launched in 2010 to promote local entrepreneurship.

   
Ghaleb Ghanem

The Judge Doctor Ghaleb Ghanem is a man of many titles: Honorary First President of the Court of Cassation, Former President of Supreme Judiciary Council, Former President of the Council of State, and last but not least, President of the Francophone Judiciary Courts of Cassation. He is also a man of many honors, being the medalist of the "Grand Officer of the National Cedar Decoration", "Grand Officer of the French National Order of Merit", and of the "Mexican Decoration of Honor". In addition, he is known as the author of several legal and literary publications. Furthermore, he has been nominated by Lebanon as a candidate for the International Court of Justice. His mandate as President of Supreme Judiciary Council was distinguished by the consolidation of the independence of the Judiciary system, as well as of its dignity and effectiveness.

   
Dr. Ziad Iskandarani

Dr. Ziad Iskandarani holds a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Iowa (1982). He worked for Dow Chemical Company in Midland, Michigan (USA) in the plastic area from 1982 till 1992 where he transferred to Marion Merrell Dow pharmaceutical division in Cincinnati, Ohio and stayed till 1994. He joined Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) in Riyadh (KSA) in 1994 where he occupied the position of R&D Analytical Manager and later as Quality Manager. He currently holds the position of Certification Manager at Bureau Veritas since 2007. Dr. Iskandarani has written 9 technical publications, one book and is a holder of 2 USA patents.
   
May El Khalil

Mrs. May El Khalil is the President of the Beirut Marathon Association an organization that she founded in 2003 in order to bring the running culture to Lebanon. In 2011, Mrs. El Khalil received the prestigious Laureus Sport for Good award for her work with the Beirut Marathon, as well as the Power of Sport award that was presented to her by the President of the Olympic Committee Jacques Rogge in Lausanne. Mrs. El Khalil was also one of the founders of the Lebanese Ladies of Nigeria, an NGO that provides assistance to the underprivileged members of Nigerian Society, she is a CEO member at (CHIEF EXECUTIVES ORGANIZATION). She is an activist for sports and peace in Lebanon and the region, a dedicated wife and mother, and a recently a grandmother.

   
Sana Abdel Latif

Born and raised in Latin America, Sana Zahreddine Abdel Latif has a background in Medicine and Public Health. She is a member of the Association for Forests Development and Conservation (AFDC) since 1998 and became the secretary of the board in 2007. She is also one of the founders and president of the Bikeathon.

 

   
Sadek Owainati

Dr. Sadek Owainati, President of MENA Projects Ltd. is a senior executive with extensive experience in various fields of the construction industry. He is a recognized leader of Green Buildings in the Middle East and is co-Founder of Emirates GBC and Founding Chairman of WorldGBC MENA Network. He helped with establishing GB councils of Qatar, Jordan, Lebanon, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain. He obtained his BSc. degree in engineering and was later awarded his doctoral from the Imperial College in 1973.

   
Iain Patton

Founder & CEO, International Green Awards™ & The Ethical Team. The founding purpose of both organisations is to achieve positive social and environmental change. Over the past seven years, the International Green Awards has worked relentlessly to find innovators and pioneers with the potential of changing the sustainability landscape. Professionally, Iain is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Chartered Institute of Public Relations and Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment. He has a Bachelors degree from the University of Wales, a Post Graduate Certificate in Marketing Management from Manchester Metropolitan University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Relations from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations in London.
   
Prof. Patrick Turner

Affiliate Professor of Entrepreneurship, INSEAD

After a business career, including running his own companies, Professor Turner joined INSEAD in 1999, teaching MBA courses on acquisitions and new business creation. He has since taught in France, Spain, Iceland, and South America, and is the co-author of a book on entrepreneurship in Asia, published in 2005. He is currently working on another book on entrepreneurship to be published later on this year. He relocated to INSEAD’s Asia campus in Singapore in 2003.

 

   
Marwan Rizkallah

Project Manager at UNDP, Mr. Marwan Rizkallah is a Civil Engineer holding a Masters in Environment and Water Resources with significant experience in environmental engineering & management and strong knowledge in Environmental Planning, Situational Analysis and Stakeholder Consultation, Environmental Impact Assessment, Waste Management Strategies, Project Management with NGO’s and international donors, Operation of solid waste facilities and landfills, Feasibility Studies for solid waste management and water networks, and Awareness Campaigns for waste management.
   
Roula W. Ajouz Sidani

Roula Ajouz Sidani was elected Member of Beirut City Council for two terms from 1998 till 2010. She was the Initiator and previous Director of CRT (Cultural and Religious Tourism Project at the Office of the Prime Minister H.E. Saad Hariri. She is currently the publisher of Cedar Wings, the Inflight Magazine of Middle East Airlines; and Board Member of the Makassed Islamic Philanthropic Association in Beirut.

   
Gilbert Tegho

Gilbert Tegho is the CEO and founder of e-EcoSolutions. He is an advocate and a regular international Speaker on Sustainability. He is also the creator of e-GreenPages. Gilbert is currently a board member of the Lebanon Green Building Council (LGBC), where he was instrumental in the Technical and the Training committees developing Arz Green Building rating system by LGBC, with the support of the World Bank and IFC. Gilbert Tegho is also a member of the Emirates Green Building council, the Qatar GBC and the Saudi GBC. Gilbert Tegho was the first Canadian to get the LEED® Green Associate credentials from the US Green Building Council, and founded e-EcoSolutions with bases in Canada, UAE, Lebanon, Qatar, covering the MENA region.
   
Nada Zaarour

Mrs. Nada Zaarour is a prominent environmental leader in Lebanon who has left a substantial impact on the Lebanese environmental movement during the last decade. Mrs. ZAAROUR is one of few women in the Arabic world at the head of a political Party as president of the Green Party of Lebanon. In addition to that, she is the president of Green Mind Organization and a co founder of the Bikeathon Association, BALDATI, Lebanon Mountain Trail, and she has been President of the Association for Forest Development & Conservation from 2005 to 2011.
